Martin celebrates the happy accidents.  A Nashville native, her work evokes a lush musical landscape much like that of her hometown via bold decisive strokes and subtle notes of detailed rendering.  “Riotous bursts of color and movement flicker across the skin of the figures as though projected onto their surfaces.” -MiChelle Jones, “The Tennessean”

The otherworldly figures that populate Martin’s canvases are unplanned subconscious composites created in the moment. The ambiguous narratives presented in her paintings pose a question rather than presenting an answer, inviting the viewer into a conversation with the piece. “I want my work to function as a mirror.” Martin recollects a Matisse portrait, Spanish Woman with Tambourine, “Her expression appears empathetic to what is happening in my life on any given day”.  This concept is apparent throughout Martin’s catalogue of work, one of many reasons her work is admired and collected world-wide.

“Martin has slowly, consistently allowed her work to evolve…while managing to maintain the mottled surfaces and muted, earthy hues that make the work unmistakably hers.” – Joe Nolan, “Nashville Scene”
